Currently, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, all in-person gatherings are cancelled until further notice. However, while we practice physical distancing, we are increasing our “social activity” online and through other virtual means. There’s a lot of emotions, anxiety, worry, and confusion these days. As a church, we are here for each other. Read on if you need help getting connected, resolving technical issues, or finding a human who can help.
Worship with us online
Worship is on Sundays at 10am. There are a few methods for participating in our online services! We gather on Facebook and Zoom. We also stream our services throughout the week on the Reading Public Access Channel (RCTV), and you can also “dial in” on the phone to listen to the service. For each of these ways and how to connect, keep reading.
To participate with “Facebook Live” you need to have a Facebook account. If you have one, simply click to go to our Facebook page. Then, scroll down a bit till you see a post with “First Congregational Church… is live now.” Click that post and you will join the live service! Here is an example picture of what it might look like, the key is to look for the text saying “…is live now” by the post. This is circled in red in the example picture (note: your Facebook page may look a bit different).
If you do not have a Facebook account, you can join our virtual service using Zoom. Zoom links are included in our weekly e-news.
If you do not have the link or information to join Zoom, email Rev. Emelia at firstname.lastname@example.org or email our office to sign up for the e-news email@example.com. When you click the link, Zoom will then launch an application that allows you to join.
When the browser asks to open zoom, click open zoom.
And then when the meeting starts in the Zoom application, be sure to MUTE your microphone in the bottom left of the Zoom window. Note: in the picture below circled in red you can see the microphone is muted already so if you see that, you are all set!
Listen by Phone
Having trouble with all the online stuff? Or know a relative who gets frustrated by computers? You can simply call in and listen using any phone. You won’t see the video feed, but you will hear it all. You’ll need the dial-in # and a meeting ID#, which changes each week. You can get through our e-news or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
Get the Bulletin by Email
If you don’t already, make sure you sign up to receive weekly updates about how to get connected. The Bulletin will be in our weekly e-news. Call the church office at 781-944-0205 or email email@example.com to get signed up.
Watch on TV
Worship services won’t be streamed live on RCTV, but if you live in Reading, MA you can watch the service throughout the week on Comcast Channel 9 or Verizon Channel 31
