Martha has been the Handbell Director at FCCR since 1998. She conducts weekly rehearsals with the church’s handbell ensemble, Jubilate Bells, and leads the group monthly in worship during the program year. 

Martha has undertaken workshop study at a number of regional and national seminars and has been privileged to learn from some of the most respected clinicians in the handbell world.  Prior to arriving at FCCR she directed ensembles at Wellesley Hills Congregational Church and Second Church in Newton; during her time in Reading she also directed at First Parish (UUA) in Concord, and at First Baptist Church in Westwood in an interim role.  She taught ringing to high school students at Lincoln School in Providence. 

Martha was a charter member of New England Ringers, performing with the group for ten years, and was a member of Back Bay Ringers during its first season; she also rang for a season with Copious Notes.  She has presented numerous workshops area educational events.  Martha served Handbell Musicians of America, Area 1 on its Board of Directors and assisted in the organization of a number of events, including twice as Registrar and twice as Dean of Education. 

Starting in music as a vocalist, she was a member of several community choruses including Newton Choral Society (now the Commonwealth Chorale), where she sang for 15 years and served on the Board of Directors.  She has extensive experience in church choral music, singing at Old South Church in Boston under Alfred Nash Patterson and Wellesley Hills Congregational Church under John Finney.  Martha studied class voice at B.U. with Allan Lannom and was a private student of Roy Kelley.  From time to time she fills in at FCCR as substitute Chancel Choir director.

Martha has a B.S.B.A. degree with a concentration in accounting from Boston University.  Formerly a human resources communica-tions consultant, she currently is employed by the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ as Administrative Assistant for Search & Call and for the Southeast Area.   In her spare time she loves to read, root for the Red Sox, and cook.
